Amy received her Bachelor’s degree in Science in Nursing from Wright State University and has worked as a registered nurse in the intensive care units and the emergency room. She is a professionally trained firefighter and nationally certified paramedic and served as a fire and life safety educator for the community. She earned her Master’s in Education from Xavier University and has taught Montessori education to children ages 3-6. Amy is currently finishing her second Master’s with a concentration in Nursing Education from Xavier University and working as the Skills and Simulation Educational Specialist in the Nursing Department at the University of Cincinnati Raymond Walters College.

Because education is the main theme in Amy’s life, when she rescued Shelby (the beautiful Golden Retriever/Lab mix in the picture!), she knew Shelby was going to need more than just a good home, food and exercise. Amy searched out the help of professional dog trainer Maureen May of Four Paws Down at Camp Bow Wow in Blue Ash. While watching and listening to Maureen as she worked with Shelby, Amy realized training a dog is a technique. Amy enrolled and completed a professional dog training program at Penn Foster College.

When Virginia Simpson joined Maureen and eventually established Unleashed Canine Obedience, LLC, Amy began to teach the puppy and adult dog leadership group classes under Virginia’s guidance. The classes are taught so that the human becomes the dog’s leader and a strong human/dog bond with a positive relationship is established. This bond is based on mutual respect, trust and clear communication between the human and the dog. To balance the life between a dog and their human companion requires patients, consistency and repetition.
